As a parent, it’s only natural to wonder: do online Dutch lessons via Skype really work? Isn’t it much harder than when children are in a classroom setting? It’s a valid question, but let me reassure you: I believe online lessons actually offer many advantages, especially when it comes to language education for children.
In my experience, I find it actually easier to teach children Dutch online than in a traditional classroom environment. In a classroom, you’re dealing with a large group of children, and sometimes it’s a challenge to give even one student the undivided attention they deserve for 10 minutes. But online, via Skype, I have 45 minutes of complete focus on one student in a one-on-one situation. And believe me, it’s incredibly effective!
The beauty of online lessons is that I can immediately address the needs of the student. If I notice that the spelling rules for ‘d’s and ‘t’s aren’t quite right yet, we can immediately give extra attention to that. And if I see that they already understand another part of the prescribed learning materials well, we can move through that more quickly. This way, we still meet the standards and norms of primary and secondary education, but we’re able to tailor the lessons exactly to what the children need.
The result? Lessons that are not only effective but also remain engaging and challenging for everyone. It’s wonderful to see how children thrive in this individual setting, where they receive all the attention and support they need to improve their language skills.
So, yes, online Dutch lessons via Skype or Google Meet definitely work! It’s a modern and efficient way to provide language education to children, and I’m proud to see my students making progress and building confidence in their language proficiency.
