Time Zones
One of the most common questions I get from parents around the world is: “How can we schedule Dutch lessons with our time zones? We live in Japan, Australia, Brazil, Canada… isn’t that challenging?” I totally understand! But the good news is: time zone differences are no problem at all. In fact, it’s what makes our work at Dutch for Kids so fun and unique!
Start of the Day
When we first started Dutch for Kids, we only had Dutch teachers. The first lessons of the day are often with children from countries like Australia, Japan, China, South Korea, and Singapore. For them, it’s already afternoon when they get home from school, and we are ready early in the morning to welcome them for their Dutch lessons.
We hear such wonderful stories from our students in these countries! Every region has its own climate, traditions, and school customs. From rainy days in Singapore to colorful festivals in Japan – our students always share the most fascinating experiences. It’s a joy to hear those stories!
Midday
Later in the day, around midday, we teach Dutch lessons to children in Dubai, India, and Russia. For them, it’s already late in the afternoon after their school day, which is the perfect time for a Dutch lesson. With all these different time zones and countries, we can schedule our lessons flexibly.
Late Afternoon
In the late afternoon, we begin lessons for children in Europe: Denmark, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, England, Norway, Poland… all over! These students often visit the Netherlands during holidays to see family, and it’s so nice to hear their stories. For them, it’s usually not far to travel, and their sweet stories about visiting grandparents are always heartwarming.
Evening
Then, towards the evening, we start lessons for kids in North and South America, like Canada, Brazil, Aruba, Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Curaçao, Peru, Chile… you name it! Many Dutch children live in these countries as well. It was so nice that, thanks to our team, we could adjust lessons to fit the various time zones.
Of course, we don’t work from early morning until late at night, but because we have a fantastic team, we can schedule lessons wisely. Some days I work in the mornings and afternoons, while on other days I work in the afternoons and evenings. This way, we can help children all around the world.
Expat Teachers
And did you know that many of our teachers are expats themselves? Often, they’ve moved abroad with their families due to their partner’s job, but wanted to continue their teaching profession. The beautiful thing is that many of these teachers now work for Dutch for Kids from various countries. This allows us to flexibly arrange lessons in all time zones, making lesson scheduling easier than ever!
