Today, I want to share with you the story of Max, one of our students at Dutch for Kids, whose journey from Malaysia to the Netherlands is truly inspiring.
Max began his Dutch lessons online with Dutch for Kids while living in Malaysia and starting his school adventure at an international school.
His father speaks Dutch with him and his mother speaks English, so – like many of his peers – Max found reading and writing in Dutch challenging, especially as he planned to study in the Netherlands.
But Max didn’t let that discourage him.
He started his online Dutch lessons with Teacher Samantha when he was in 5th grade. Twice a week, they worked together on his language skills while he did his international schoolwork live in Malaysia.
Max worked hard, and over time, his Dutch skills grew to a level where he could confidently communicate, read, and write.
Now, years later, Max is in his final year of VWO (he prepared for the NT2 state exam together with Teacher Samantha) and is about to fulfill his dream by studying at a Dutch university next year. Max’s determination and dedication are an inspiration to us all.

The university offered him an accelerated test—if he scored 90% on it, that would be enough for admission, and he wouldn’t have to take the NT-2 state exam.
So, in our recent lessons, we practiced gap-fill exercises (since that was what he needed to do), and yesterday morning, we did a quick booster lesson before he went in for his exam.
A few hours later, I received the redeeming message: passed!

Max shows that children growing up in an international environment can achieve their goals and successfully integrate into the Dutch education system with the right support and effort.
His story perfectly illustrates how Dutch for Kids helps international education by bridging cultures and languages and helping children realize their ambitions.
Max, we are incredibly proud of you, and we know you have a brilliant future ahead.
